Actor Nicolas Cage is likely to set his head ablaze again: there are indeed talks of a movie sequel to Ghost Rider. Not exactly a direct sequel though, the movie Ghost Rider 2 would be instead something closer to a reboot!
Back in July 2009, Nicolas Cage was already hinting at this reboot option for Ghost Rider 2:
"I would like to do a reconceive. I would like to go in a whole other direction, and I think that’s what they’re talking about.
[...]
I would make it much less of a western and more of an international story."
Nicolas Cage
And in September 2009, it was announced that a script written by David Goyer 9 years ago has been picked up for the upcoming Ghost Rider 2. And David Goyer is now working on updating this script:
David Goyer has since told more about the upcoming Ghost Rider 2 movie to MTV:
"It's not exactly a reboot. I hate to say it's more realistic, because he's got a flaming skull for a head, but it's a bit more stripped down and darker. It's definitely changing tone. What 'Casino Royale' was to the Bond movies, hopefully this will be to 'Ghost Rider.'
[...]
This story picks up eight years after the first film. You don't have to have seen the first film. It doesn't contradict anything that happened in the first film, but we're pretending that our audience hasn't seen the first film. It's as if you took that same character where things ended in the first film and then picked it up eight years later—he's just in a much darker, existential place.
[...]
My script is out there on the Internet, We're not changing much from it. It'll be significantly the same script."
Scriptwriter David Goyer
Too bad I don't have that script of Ghost Rider 2! If someone could share the old screenplay of Ghost Rider 2 with me it would make my day!
Anyway, I'm glad to hear that David Goyer is on board for Ghost Rider 2, I bet it's gonna be way better than the first film!
